Introduction

The DSM cost effectiveness tool will help the user in evaluating the viability and cost effectiveness of select DSM programmes, which have high energy and peak demand saving potential . It adopts the standard cost effectiveness tests (listed below) recognized by the California Public Utilities Commission, Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission and many other electricity regulators across the world. The tool has been designed to undertake the above tests on DSM measures targeting six end-use applications that include: Lighting, Ceiling Fans, Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Electric Geysers and Agriculture Pumping System. The tool has been developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers with support from Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, which is a non-profit organization working to strengthen the energy security of the country by aiding the design and implementation of policies that encourage energy efficiency as well as renewable energy.
